Q.
What is the DVC
A.
DVC stands for Digital Video Co-operative. It is
a compilation DVD of independent shorts paid for by everybody featured
on the DVD.
Q.
Why should I be a part of this compilation?
A.
Hmmm... See the rest of the web site.
Q.
How much does it cost to submit a film?
A. Nothing.
Q.
How do I submit a film?
A. Write
us at Quantum Petshop an E-mail and we will give you more specific
information.
Q.
How much does it cost to be on the DVC?
A. This is
complicated, sort of. It depends on the level of interest. The more
content and the more we get, the cheaper the cost is per DVD. In
the best case scenario, the total cost for 1000 packaged DVDs (~$1900)
is divided amonst the contributors based on their individual percentage
of the total runtime.
Q.
Why so much when places like www.diskmakers.com
have cheaper solutions?
A. At the
current time, we do not know the interest level to support options
like the website mentioned. The current solution we have researched
allows us flexibility in quantity. However, when compared equally,
this price is good. We get 4/0 jacket and 4/1 inserts (for film
descriptions, etc.) and case and wrap. We also have commisioned
a compoaser to compose custom music for the DVD menues. Additionally,
because we will use a local production house, we save money on shipping.
Regardless,
once we have a better understanding of the interest and potential
of this project we will reinvestigate the options. In the end, we
feel the cost to the individual filmmaker will allways be less when
part of a group than can ever be reached alone.
Q.
What is in it for quantum petshop?
A. We
get the same benefits you do. We get our film seen and we save money.
We also enjoy this.
Q.
Who maintains the
rights to the content?
A. Each filmmaker
maintains the rights to their own work. You can sell the DVDs you
get, show your film at festivals, whatever you want. We figure the
more places each film is shown, the better it is for the compilation.
The only restriction we would have is that no contract would be
created that would restrict the use and sale of the DVC by any party
involved.
Q.
What submission formats
are eligible?
A. To
make this easy on us, we want your film in a format we can compose
onto a DVD easily. At present time, this is miniDV, or AVI or MOV.
Contact to work out the details.
Q.
If you cut down all
but one tree in a rainforest is that tree called a rain tree?
A. That
is a stupid question.
Q.
What restrictions
are there on content?
A. Its
one of those things that we won't really know until we see it. We
do however, reserve the right to deny any film for any reason.
Q.
Are trailers, extra
features accepted?
A.
Yes.
