The Digital
Video Co-op (DVC) is a collabrative DVD containing
a collection of short films.
The
DVC allows indiependant filmmakers to join together on one compilation
DVD and split the cost of creating high quality, professionaly made
DVDs.
The
Issue:
You crearted a short film. Now what do you
do with it?
Not
too long ago we at quantum petshop produced
a DVD of our short film Bullets
over Breakfast. We looked everywhere for the best deal and ended
up paying over $1500 for a
minimum of 1000 DVDs.
To
make our money back we knew we would have to sell 100 DVDs for $15
each. That didn't seem like an impossible thing to do. However,
few people wanted to spend $15 on an 11 minute short. (Regardless
of the great extra features.)
Our
Solution:
Enter
the
Digital Video Co-operative or
DVC. A collaborative
DVD where the filmmakers split the cost and share
the benifits.
The
Process:
The
process is simple: each filmmaker pays a fraction of the total DVD
production cost and has the option of purchasing a number of professionaly
packaged DVDs for approximatley $3 each.
The more people involved, the lower
the price and the greater the possible exposure.
