So,
you've completed a short film and you want to show it off. You could
burn unreliable DVDs on your computer, or you could spend $1500
for way too many professionally made DVDs.
Or
you could join the Digital Video Co-op (DVC) and be part of a compilation
DVD. You split the cost fairly with other filmmakers and
We
are not in this to
make money. We are simply hosting it, putting it
together, etc.
Reasons
to Join:
- Get
seen. For the cost of
a few unreliable festival entries your short film can be part of a
compilation that will be viewed by many (even if its just those involved
and their friends & family).
- Save
$. Get your film on a real
DVD, professionally made (not duplicated/burned) at
a fraction of the cost to do it yourself.
- Be
part of a bigger picture. More people would be willing to purchase
a feature length DVD
than a DVD of a single short, no matter how many extra features it
may have.
- Buy
only the number of DVDs you want.
- High
quality production including case and wrap. Cover and DVD professionally
printed and replicated.
- You
make the film, we make the DVD, giving you more time to make more
films...
- The
DVD will have a unique UPC number.
- Sell
a couple copies and recoup (at least part of) the cost.
-
Even just a little promotion,
such as newspaper or online reviews can generate attention for everyone
involved. As a collective group we can work
together to promote the DVD instead of just a single
short.
- Filmmakers
maintain the rights
to all of their own work.
- Filmmakers
can use the DVDs for Festival submissions
& reviews.
- Get
listed on the IMDB.
- The
DVD will include filmmaker bios
for all parties involved.
- Its
fun to work with other filmmakers.
- Make
your mark in some lame historical text by being part of the first
DVC, Volume 1!
Cost
Breakdown
Because
this is a fair split proposal, the
cost depends on the number of people involved and the total runtime.
The more people and the longer the runtime, the less cost per minute.
Additionally, the more packaged DVDs purchased, the lower the cost
per DVD.
To
help get things going we have laid out the following preliminary
numbers.
Films,
Trailers and Extra Features:
$10.00
per
minute
(estimate based on total runtime of 100 minutes)
+
$2.50 per packaged DVD
