Easy Light Rays
Learn how to add rays of light to your text very easily.

|
| STEP 1 |
Start a new image and add your text, assuming white text on black background. Center the text and make sure you have a decent margine around it for the rays to go.

|
| STEP 2 |
| Duplicate the text layer and color it black. Hide this layer temporarily. |
| STEP 3 |
With the lower, white text layer selected, apply a glowing edges filter. Go to Filter>Stylize>Glowing Edges. Accept that the layer will be rasterized. I used settings of 4 for Edge Width, 8 for Edge Brightness and 2 for Smoothness.

|
| STEP 4 |
Now apply a radial blur filter to the lower, white text layer. Go to Filter>Blur>Radial Blur. Accept that the layer will be rasterized. Set the method to Zoom, quality to Best, and amount to 100.
Apply the radial blur two more times. |
 |

|
| STEP 4 |
To increase the brightness, add a Levels adjustment layer. Do this from the toolbar by going to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Levels... Adjust the right handle to the edge of the notable histogram.

|
And there you have it, the final version. You may
want to try blurring the layer a little, though I like the sharp
rays in this case.
